For the last week or two I have been getting this non responsive situation with a green blinking light.
I have done nothing different than usual. SyMenu has always been installed to E: so it's strange it should start happening now.
The other odd thing is that the D: install, my most used and using the latest beta, is fine, never an issue.
I am starting the E: SyMenu via a shortcut from the D: SyMenu shortcut, and the E: version starts but keeps flashing no matter how long it's left to load.
D:\SyMenu version = 5.10.6254
E:\SyMenu version = 5.10.6254

The only way to make it disappears is restarting SyMenu.
The fastest way to make it reappears is opening and closing the configuration form several times. In this way you increase the memory overload... Our simply let it runs for some days.

Thank you for the quick and thorough response.

I'm not sure why, but the problem has magically disappeared. I will report back if it happens again.

In any case, I am running on a reasonably fast PC (Core i5-4300U CPU, 8 GB RAM) with an SSD storage drive. There are no HDDs or USB drives at all.

useroftech wrote:

What does the blinking green light indicate? Is there any way around this?

The blinking green light indicates that SyMenu is loading its items from the configuration files to its memory, so it means "I'm working on the disk".
Yes you can easily workaround this issue using a fastest disk/USB drive. In case you are talking about a not removable installation you can use a fastest disk only for SyMenu itself and its files (about 10MB) and locate its controlled programs in another disk if disk space is a problem.

But the real question is: why SyMenu needs to reload its items so frequently?
When I create SyMenu I was worried about the memory occupation. SyMenu is a particular program that need to stay active but for the majority of time does nothing. It is not correct that this kind of program reserves a large slice of memory for itself when it does nothing, so I adopted some dirty tricks to unload the memory during its inactivity leaving a small RAM footprint.
I think that under Windows 10 this behavior creates some problems when you leave SyMenu active for a while. With the term "for a while" I intend entire days in a row.
If your disk is not so fast and if you leave SyMenu active "for a while", simply shut it down and relaunch it and the problem will solve by itself.

Hello!

I recently installed SyMenu on my Windows 10 machine. When I launch any item, the green light on SyMenu's notification area icon blinks for about 20 seconds, during which time SyMenu is totally unresponsive. I must wait 20 seconds before I can launch another item.

What does the blinking green light indicate? Is there any way around this?

Thank you!
